The AURORA Biennial is designed to create a welcoming space where people come together, leaving behind the divisions and conflicts of today's world. With the theme of 'FuturePresentPast,' it reminds us that our shared humanity can help us overcome challenges. As cities rapidly change and we deal with political tension, post-pandemic uncertainty, and worries about the future—while still feeling nostalgic for the past—this event focuses on how we can connect with each other. It's about bringing communities together, discussing important issues like health, the environment, and how cities are changing due to displacement and migration.
The theme of 'FuturePresentPast' highlights the importance of time, showing how the past influences the future, and how the present is a key moment for making positive changes. By uniting, we can create shared moments that help us overcome common struggles and shape a better future.
Visitors will experience the powerful work of artists from around the world, who explore themes of time and place through interactive and digital pieces, as well as through sound and site-specific art.
The event also draws inspiration from the local culture of North Texas, including familiar sounds like gospel choirs, marching bands, and mariachi groups, making it a truly immersive experience. Local and international artists contribute to the biennial theme, showcasing how art can bring people together through shared cultural experiences and active participation.
