About this Event
Aunt Bettys with Watashi Wa and The Rocky Valentines (Matinee) on Saturday, February 28 at The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa, CA!
The Aunt Bettys celebrate the long-awaited reissue of their self-titled 1996 debut with a rare live show!
The band will play favorites from the album alongside other classic Bettys tracks, with original members Brian Doidge, Andrew Carter, and Chuck Cummings on stage. Joining them is local Orange County singer Ryan Lee Mead, sharing vocal duties with other “friends of the Bettys.”Signed to Elektra in 1995 at the height of the alternative rock era, Aunt Bettys was Michael Knott’s shot at breaking into the mainstream. The “witty, decadent, catchy, assuredly rocking record” (Los Angeles Times) drew from Knott’s nights in Orange County dive bars, channeling the Stones’ swagger, Bowie’s glam edge, and the intensity of Jane’s Addiction. Despite winning a bidding war to sign the band, Elektra provided zero promotion, and the band dissolved within months of the album’s release.Even so, the album lived on as one of the most celebrated releases of Knott’s career. Lost in Ohio has now brought it back with new artwork and a full remaster. Copies on vinyl, CD, and cassette will be available for purchase at the show.
