🎹 August Wilson’s The Piano LessonThe past echoes in every chord.
By August Wilson
Directed by James Ijames
📅 May 27 to June 14 | Schubert Theatre
In 1936 Pittsburgh, the Charles family is divided by a legacy carved in wood. At the center stands a piano etched with the faces of their enslaved ancestors. Berniece guards it as a sacred testament to their history, while Boy Willie arrives from Mississippi determined to sell it and claim a future of his own.
As their conflict deepens, the past refuses to stay silent. Ghosts stir, memories surface, and the family must confront what can be carried forward and what can never be left behind. In this Pulitzer Prize–winning masterpiece, August Wilson asks whether freedom is found in preserving the past or in daring to let it go.
