Twin City Theatre Company announces Songs for a New World with Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. Directed by Kendall Jeonson, Music Direction by Simon Tiffin, Choreography by Whitney Havice. Performances June 12-21, 2026 @ Parkland Second Stage.
About the Show:
Songs for a New World is a powerful and intimate song cycle about change, resilience, and finding your voice when the world shifts under your feet. In the words of composer Jason Robert Brown, the show is about “one moment — hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” The show brings together stories from people who do not always get the spotlight, including immigrants, mothers, dreamers, workers, and ordinary people carrying extraordinary moments. With soaring music and deeply human storytelling, this production aligns beautifully with Twin City Theatre Company’s mission to uplift underrepresented voices and create meaningful theatre.
Casting breakdown:
Songs for a New World features four singer-actors and a non-singing dance ensemble. No roles have been precast.
Twin City Theatre Company encourages performers of all backgrounds to audition.
Singer-Actors:
Each singer-actor portrays multiple characters throughout the show and should be comfortable with strong storytelling and ensemble work.
- Woman 1 - Any race or ethnicity - Vocal Range: Soprano (F#3–A5)
- Woman 2 - Any race or ethnicity - Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (F3–F5)
- Man 1 - Black or African descent - Vocal Range: Tenor (D3–F5)
- Man 2 - Any race or ethnicity - Vocal Range: Baritone (F#2–C5)
Dance Ensemble:
- Approximately 3–5 dancers
- All genders encouraged to audition
- Non-singing dance ensemble
Dance audition details are TBD and will be announced the week of March 15th. Dance auditions will take place the same day as vocal auditions. Dancers do not have to sign up for a singing slot.
Auditions:
- Friday, April 3rd, 2026 from 5:30pm–9:00pm.
- Audition Location: CUTC rehearsal space
117 E. University Ave., Champaign
- Please enter from the back. The entrance is located in the alley off First Street, two doors down from the former Dallas & Co. building.
- Callbacks will take place the evening of April 3 immediately following auditions. You may be asked to sing a longer section or the full song at that time. Callbacks may be cancelled if not needed.

Singer-Actors:
Each role has one required acting cut and two vocal options. Please prepare two contrasting cuts from Songs for a New World:
- One acting/storytelling cut
- One vocal showcase cut
Song options & sheet music for each role are available at the link above.
Auditioners are encouraged to become familiar with the full song, as learning the whole piece will make it easier to prepare. We may choose to use other parts of these songs for callbacks.
Dancers:
Dance audition details are TBD and will be announced the week of March 15th. Dance auditions will take place the same day as vocal auditions. Dancers do not have to sign up for a singing slot.
Note on Rehearsals:
Rehearsals are expected to begin the week of April 27, 2026. Rehearsals will tentatively run Monday–Thursday evenings from 6:30pm–9:30pm, with possible adjustments pending cast availability.
