Audition Requirements:
o Perform a 45-60 second Shakespearean monologue
o Be prepared to perform cold readings
Casting Note:
The Schuster Theatre is committed to casting with integrity, sensitivity, and care. We intend to honor the themes of the text and intentions of the playwright, and as such are seeking a diverse cast with Black performers in the roles of Othello and Cassio. All other roles may be played by any race. All ages, genders, and abilities are welcome. BIPOC performers, newcomers, students, community members, and those with any level of experience are encouraged to audition.

DUKE OF VENICE
BRABANTIO, a senator
GRATIANO, brother to Brabantio
LODOVICO, kinsman to Brabantio
OTHELLO, a noble Moor in the service of the Venetian state
CASSIO, his lieutenant
IAGO, his ancient
RODERIGO, a Venetian gentleman
MONTANO, Othello’s predecessor in the government of Cyprus
CLOWN, servant to Othello
DESDEMONA, daughter to Brabantio and wife to Othello
EMILIA, wife to Iago
BIANCA, mistress to Cassio
Things to Know:
o All roles will be paid via stipend
o Rehearsals will take place in the evening at the Schuster Theatre, then at the LEAF Center the week of opening
o Performances are outdoors in an open public space
o Rain location for performances: Schuster Theatre
