ABOUT SHAKESPEARE AT THE RUINS
This beloved, nationally-acclaimed collaboration between Barboursville Vineyards and Central Virginia's longest-running community theater returns! Performances will be on-site in the beautiful Barboursville Vineyards, at the historic ruins of Governor James Barbour's mansion, designed by Thomas Jefferson and destroyed by fire on Christmas Day, 1884.
ABOUT THE PLAY
In MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, one of Shakespeare's most imaginative and exuberant comedies, contrasting pairs of lovers engage in a witty and suspenseful battle of the sexes. Attracted to each other, the maddeningly skeptical Beatrice and Benedick are dead-locked in a lively war of words until their friends hatch a plot to unite them. The mutually devoted Hero and Claudio, on the other hand, all too quickly fall victim to a malicious plot to part them. Near-fatal complications ensue, but with the help of the hilarious Constable Dogberry and his confederates, the lovers are ultimately united.
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
From the moment I first stepped foot onto the Barboursville Vineyard, I fell in love with the location. When I discovered that the magic of Shakespeare at the Ruins existed, I immediately made it a goal to one day hopefully get to direct a show there. To now have the opportunity to direct one of my all-time favorite plays — for the first time — in such a picturesque environment with a first-class organization like Four County Players, I could not be more thrilled. I am excited for the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of actors to tell this amazing story. I cannot wait to meet you all! Play on! (To borrow from another Shakespeare play)

ABOUT AUDITIONS:
Director Rick St. Peter is seeking a strong, diverse group of actors – AGES 18 AND UP – to play the roles described at THIS LINK: https://shorturl.at/ToWRO
Auditions will be scheduled in 1.5 hour blocks, which will consist of a group warmup followed by individual monologue auditions. For your individual audition, Rick would like you to prepare a 60-second comedic monologue from Shakespeare or his contemporaries, or one of Shakespeare’s sonnets. It would be ideal for you to be off book. Once you have done your monologue, you are free to leave. If you need a suggestion for a monologue, this website is a good resource: https://www.shakespeare-monologues.org/
Callbacks will be Wednesday, April 8 by invitation only, and will consist of reading from the script. Exact script sides will be emailed to those called back.
Full copies of the script are available upon request – email [email protected].
