ABOUT THE SHOW:
A tragic tale of power, ambition, murder, and the supernatural, Shakepeare's Macbeth gets an over the top, campy twist with outrageous original rock songs inspired by 80’s hair metal bands! In our adaption of the famous play, King Duncan is Duncan King, the over the hill lead singer of the band “Something Wicked.” Macbeth, a back up vocalist for the band, and wannabe star, and his ambitious wife Lady M plot to take over the band and boot Duncan out, by any means necessary. The plot thickens as Macbeth meets a strange punk rock band called “The Weird Sisters” who give him a slew of cryptic prophecies that are the catalyst for all of Macbeth and Lady M’s evil doings.
AUDITIONS DATES:
Friday December 27th from 6pm-9pm
Saturday December 28th from 10am-2pm
WHERE: Samaritan Odd Fellows Lodge 10282 SE Main St, Milwaukie, OR 97222.
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
We create unique and innovative original rock musicals and cabarets in the Portland area : www.torchsongentertainment.com.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
- A verse and chorus of a rock song that best showcases your talent. Please no musical theater unless it’s in a rock style. Bring an extra verse and chorus of a contrasting song just in case we'd like to hear more. Please bring a karaoke track (This can be from Youtube) on a smartphone, laptop, iPad, or iPod. We will have a hookup to speakers at the venue. If you have a fancy new phone without a headphone jack, bring your dongle. No acapella singing. You must have a track to sing with.
- We will have you read “sides” (AKA excerpts) from the script. You can request to read for any part and we may have you read for specific parts we think you’d be suitable for. Sides will be emailed out a week prior to the audition. They do not need to be memorized.
- A short and simple dance combo. 1 week prior to the auditions we will send a youtube link to learn a short 8 bar combo that you’ll perform for us your audition. Relax and have fun! We just want to see how you move. Lack of dance experience is not a deal breaker.
- Each auditioner will be signing up for a 10 minute audition slot
HOW TO REQUEST AN AUDITION SLOT :
Email Heidi at [email protected] with a headshot and resume and your preferred audition times. DO NOT bring a physical headshot and resume. We want to save trees and your money/ time. Please arrive 10 minutes before your audition to check in. If you can’t audition in person you may submit an audition video. Email for more details on how to submit a video.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Passionate, dedicated, hard working people who want to bring the joy of theater to the PDX area. Your attitude, work ethic, and passion for our company and projects is MUCH more important to us than raw talent. Although we WILL be looking for dynamic and exciting vocalists/actors. And yes, ALL roles are singing roles in some capacity. We are also looking for tech super stars who'd like to help on the backstage side of things.
CASTING:
We are all about non-traditional casting. Even if a role says "female" or "male" or has a particular age range assigned to it, you may still be considered for the role if you are a great fit! The best part about doing original work is that we can fit the role to the performer instead of vice versa.
ACTOR REQUIREMENTS:
Actors will be required to provide their own make-up, undergarments (like tights), and some street clothes and things from their own closet. Most other costuming and wigs will be provided. Actors will be required to assist with some set up/ tear down of the space between shows and dress/techs, and with the final “strike” at the end of the run.
REHEARSALS:
We only rehearse on Sunday evenings for several months and then stat to add other nights per week as we get closer to the show opening. If you are the type of person that needs to rehearse every night of the week for 4 months straight in order to get your part down, this is NOT the company for you. We expect actors to come prepared and do work on their own to polish their lines and choreo. It's a short rehearsal process and has been challenging for some actors in the past who are used to more traditional community theater schedules.
CONFLICTS :
Actors with more than 3 pre-approved conflicts DO NOT apply. More than 1 unexcused absence will result in the actor being removed from the production. Any no show/no call absence will result in the actor being removed from the production. We have a very short rehearsal process and it hurts the entire production when actors are habitually absent. Actors must have their conflicts available at the time of the audition.
REHEARSAL/ SHOW SCHEDULE:
- All rehearsals at Samaritan Odd Fellows Lodge in Milwaukie unless otherwise noted
- All actors may not be required at every rehearsal. Rehearsal schedules are updated weekly and we’ll let you know when you’ll be needed.
- Actors are allowed only 3 pre-approved excused absences. You need to know your conflicts before auditioning.

ROLES AVAILABLE:
Duncan King - (male 40s-70s/ high baritone) The lead singer for “Something Wicked.” British. Past his prime and addicted to a myriad of substances. He’s good natured and kind and a beloved rock idol. Keith Richards or Ozzy Osbourne type.
Fleance Spectre (female 12-20/ soprano) - Banquo’s teen daughter who helps as a roadie for the band. She is not very gifted musically (or so it seems) until she belts out an awesome Joan Jett style vocal and surprises the band.
Billie MacDuff (female. Any age/ mezzo) - Duncan’s agent and PR person for many years. She is focused, driven, and matter of fact. She very often has to clean up Duncan’s messes and get him straightened out after he’s had another “bender.”
Tim/Tina Porter (Any gender. Any age/ baritone or mezzo) - a cut-up. They’ve been a loyal roadie for the band for a long time and everyone just puts up with their terrible jokes and sarcasm.
Allie, Lacy, and Chloe (female. Any age/ mixed voices) - The Weird Sisters - Three mysterious members of a goth rock band that give Macbeth and Banquo “prophecies” about their futures. Voice parts will be assigned depending on the people we cast.
Malcolm and Donnie King (Any gender. Late teens - early 30s) - Duncan’s kids and roadies for the band. They are always trying (unsuccessfully) to keep their dad on the straight and narrow, but Duncan’s partying ways unfortunately run in the family.
Cindy (female. Any age. mezzo) - Sound tech and roadie for the band. Kind of a ditz but smart when it comes to tech stuff.
Chorus - will portray various characters like fans, banquet guests, celebrity ghosts, and roadies.
