Bing in the New Year is a free, outdoor, family-friendly New Year's Eve event in downtown Milwaukie that culminates with a 9 p.m. (East Coast midnight) "cherry drop," where we will lower a 7-foot lighted Bing cherry. The Bing cherry was first cultivated circa 1875 in Milwaukie, Oregon. It was named for the Chinese nursery foreman, Ah Bing, who grew the new variety of cherry. Bing in the New Year is a celebration of this history! We will have a beer garden, food vendors, live music, lion dancers and other Chinese performance artists.
