The Camp will be On-Campus in ATU Letterkenny, you MUST register here for tickets.
About this Event
The Camp will take place from 10am to 3pm Tuesday the 2nd of June to Friday the 5th of June and is open to children between the ages 12 to 17. The camp will be available on Campus in ATU Letterkenny, you need to register to attend the camp..
The camp will incorporate the following workshops:
Tuesday 2nd June - Mobile App Development
MIT App Inventor uses a Visual Programming methodology, similar to Scratch to allow children of all ages make fun Mobile Applications. This block-based coding environment allows students to create and deploy applications onto Mobile Devices. The apps they create with App Inventor are very functional, interacting with sensors onboard the Mobile Device and create interactive applications that use Artificial Intelligence techniques to recognise objects via the camera on the device.
Wednesday 3rd June - Coding with Swift playgrounds
In this workshop the children will learn how to write code in Swift, which is the programming language for all iOS (Apple) devices, they will do this using an application called Swift Playgrounds. Students learn logic and coding fundamentals through gamification - solving puzzles by writing code to tell a character in a maze-based game how to navigate through different problems.
Thursday 4th June - Vibe Programming with AI
Vibe Programming with AI is a relaxed, creative way for students to explore coding by turning their ideas into real projects with a bit of intelligent help along the way. Instead of getting stuck on syntax, they can use tools like ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot to generate starting points, suggest improvements, or fix bugs, then customise and experiment to make the project their own. The focus is on creativity, curiosity, and momentum—students try things out, see instant results, and build confidence as they shape code into games, animations, or interactive experiences that reflect their own ideas.
Friday 5th June - Coding with BBC Micro:Bits
Students will spend the day getting hands-on with the BBC micro:bit, creating their own interactive projects using code and simple electronics. They’ll program things like step counters, reaction games, or mini gadgets that use lights, buttons, and sensors, quickly seeing their ideas come to life in the real world. Through experimenting, testing, and improving their designs, they’ll build confidence with coding while also exploring how hardware and software work together in a fun, practical way.
