Atomic: The Songs Of Blondie returns to Kindred Bandroom for a Sunday matinee, performing two full sets of music from one of the most influential bands of the late twentieth century.Blondie emerged from New York’s punk scene at CBGB, sharing stages with Talking Heads and Television, but quickly pushed beyond punk’s limits. They blended art-school aesthetics - Andy Warhol was among their early supporters - with sharp pop instincts, and moved easily between genres. Their catalogue spans rock, disco, reggae and new wave, while Rapture broke new ground as the first #1 single to feature rap vocals on the Billboard Hot 100.
Songs such as Heart Of Glass, Dreaming, One Way Or Another, Call Me and Atomic remain defining tracks of the era, sitting alongside deeper cuts like I Know But I Don’t Know, 11:59 and Will Anything Happen that reveal Blondie’s reach and invention.
Atomic is led by Anthea Palmer, joined by Stu Thomas (The Stu Thomas Paradox, Dave Graney & The MistLY, Kim Salmon & The Surrealists), Mike Dupp (The Methinks, The Futurists), Victor Stranges (The Methinks, The Futurists) and Garry Allen (Crossbones Boogie, Kahuna Daddies). Together they bring decades of live experience, approaching Blondie’s songs with urgency and intent - hard, vital and with reverence for the originals.
