In a city steeped in legacy and cultural resonance, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is set to witness a rare confluence of art, philosophy, and spiritual inquiry organized by Kannagi's Nrityabodhi. Atma Samvaad is not merely a dance-theatre production—it is an evocative exploration of an eternal question that has echoed within seekers across ages: does one reach the divine through Prem (love) or Bhakti (devotion)?
The stage will see a powerful confluence of artists: Sri Akshobhya Bharadwaj in Kathak, Dr. Smt. Kannagi Gosavi Jain in Odissi, and Smt. Deepanwita Bhoumik, who brings together painting and movement in a distinctive performative form.
Atma Samvaad unfolds as an inward journey. The soul questions, hesitates, and yearns—torn between the tenderness of love and the surrender of devotion—before embarking on its quest for transcendence and moksha. The production seeks not to answer, but to immerse the audience in that very dilemma, allowing each viewer to discover their own path within.
A defining feature of the presentation is its multi-disciplinary canvas. The intricate rhythms of Kathak meet the sculptural grace of Odissi, creating a compelling dialogue between two classical dance traditions. Enhancing this experience further is the element of *live painting on stage*, where visual art evolves in real time alongside movement and music—transforming the performance into a living, breathing tapestry of expression.
Conceptualized, written, directed and co-performed by Sri Akshobhya Bharadwaj, the production brings together layered storytelling with classical artistry. A renowned Kathak exponent based in Navi Mumbai, Sri Bharadwaj has represented India on international platforms, notably in Malaysia under the aegis of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Deeply rooted in the spiritual ethos of Varanasi, his journey reflects an extraordinary blend of resilience, devotion, and artistic brilliance—having overcome life’s gravest challenges through dance and spirituality.
The textual and lyrical framework—comprising poetry and prose—has been written and adapted by Sri Bharadwaj himself. The musical score is composed by Sri Kaushik Basu and Sri Vaibhav Mankad, while evocative playback singing by Sri Vaibhav Mankad and Smt. Hansika Nair lends emotional depth to the narrative. The curation and structuring of the musical repertoire has been guided by Smt. Priyanka Raman.
