The 4th Annual NYU Sports Film Festival will kick-off with a speaker panel on Athlete-Centric Storytelling! Emmy-nominated producer Ryan Heller, Sports Emmy-winning editor Anthony Cortese, CBS Sports Associate Producer/Director Rachel Wagner, and NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Champion Morgan Morrison will come together to share their perspectives on media centered around the dramatic, unpredictable journey of athletes.

About Ryan Heller: is Executive Vice President, Film & Documentary, at Topic Studios, the award-winning entertainment studio from First Look Media. He is responsible for building and shepherding the company’s film and feature documentary slate through development, financing, production and distribution. Heller oversees PGA Award and Emmy®-winning HBO series 100 Foot Wave, recently renewed for a third season. Ryan has been a longtime champion for new directorial voices, shepherding projects such as Nikyatu Jusu’s psychological horror film Nanny (Blumhouse/Amazon), which won the 2022 Sundance Grand Jury Prize and marks the first horror film to do so; Shortcomings, the feature directorial debut of Randall Park, Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s musical comedy Theater Camp, winner of the Sundance U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award: Ensemble; and Michael Angelo Covino’s buddy comedy and winner of Cannes’ Un Certain Regard Heart Prize The Climb. Other notable projects Heller has overseen for Topic Studios include Pablo Larraín’s Academy Award®-nominated Spencer , Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool , Debra Granik’s three-time Independent Spirit Award-nominated Leave No Trace; Kevin Macdonald’s Golden Globe®-winning legal thriller The Mauritanian ; and Julius Onah’s three-time Independent Spirit Award-nominated dramatic thriller Luce.
About Anthony Cortese: A 13-time Emmy winner, Anthony J. Cortese, VP of editorial at the NY-based agency Bridgenext, has more than 30 years of experience telling stories as an editor, producer and director. He's also been honored with a Grand Clio and Cannes Silver Lion for his work in television. Anthony edited the emmy-winning Showtime documentary A Game of Honor (2011). His work also includes LT: The Life & Times (2013), Something in the Water (2018) and his directorial debut for Paramount+ The Only (2022) and The Billion Dollar Goal (2023). Ranging from The Champions League to the Final Four (not to mention 7 Super Bowls) his career has led him to work with talent like John Malkovich, Mahershala Ali, Jesse Eisenberg, John Goodman, Ving Rhames, Ron Howard, and Tom Cruise creating opens and features for some of the biggest sporting events ever.
About Rachel Wagner: Rachel Wagner produces teases, features, remote shoots and other packages for The NFL Today pre-game show and NFL, college football and March Madness basketball games. She is the Control Room AD for College Football Today and The NFL Today, tape producer for the SEC on CBS, and front of truck AD for various NFL, CBB and CFB games. Major events she has worked include Super Bowl LVIII, Super Bowl LV, Super Bowl LIII, Super Bowl 50, The Selection Show, The Masters, the PGA Championship, the SEC Championship, the AFC Championship, the Army-Navy game, the Final Four, NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship, and the Sun Bowl. She has won Sports Emmys for Outsanding Live Sports Series and Outstanding Playoff Coverage in association with her work on CBS Sport's The NFL on CBS and The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in 2019.
About Morgan Morrison: Morgan Morrison attended Smith College for her undergraduate degree in general engineering, where she was a four year varsity member of the women's basketball team. During her time at Smith she participated in the society of women engineers club, was the WBCA 2023 D3 National player of the year, and made an appearance in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. After graduating, she came to NYU to earn her masters degree in electrical engineering and compete in my last year of collegiate eligibility. This past season brought her immense joy and closure to her collegiate career by winning the NCAA DIII championship title undefeated, and she is the subject of A Violet Blooms, one of the documentaries chosen as an official selection in the 2024 NYU Sports Film Festival. She now looks forward to progressing her career in electrical engineering with a focus on green energy.
