About this Event
An OCF (Our City Forest) x CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) event in mutual aid. OCF Education Specialist Ian MacLeod and members of the CORE team will lead this hands on workshop for participants to learn about this land conversion / gardening technique specific for disaster and drought prevention in urban environments.
Following a brief classroom lesson about bioswales and their best uses, we will perform a bioswale maintenance day for hands on experience in creating your own swale at home. This will include a small shrub planting, weeding, light mulching, and water basin maintenance of the onsite bioswale at UFEC.
**NOTE: this workshop is intended for educational purposes and will not be available to use as service/volunteer hour.
ABOUT CORE: CORE works with Bay Area communities to build resilience in the face of growing climate challenges. They offer hands-on training and resources that help neighbors prepare for earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and other emergencies, while also partnering with communities to reduce risk before disasters strike. Through practical climate solutions, they connect disaster readiness with climate action to support safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities for the long term.
