Fascinated by the different galaxies and stars? Then come and learn more! This winter and spring the Kempsville Recreation Center is partnering with the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers Club to provide residents with a fun and interactive introductory series on the wonders above. Classes are two part - in class instructional, followed by a stroll outside to look up and see the night skies through telescopes provided. (Weather permitting).THE WINTER SKY!
We will show what constellations and celestial objects are visible in the spring sky, such as Leo the Lion, Canis Major and Canis Minor, Orion's "hunting dogs", Gemini the Twins, and Auriga the Charioteer.
In April we will be able to see, (Weather permitting, of course) a conjunction of Jupiter and the Moon in Gemini, the planet Venus, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the bright stars Betelgeuse, Arcturus, Sirius, Spica, and Capella. The sun sets late, at 7:51 pm, so the sky will still be twilight, not completely dark.
