In 2026, we will set sail on a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to celebrate Helen Mary R’s 40th birthday—four decades of transforming young lives through the power of the Sail Training. ASPIRE40 is not just a voyage; it’s a tribute to the thousands of young people who have grown in confidence, resilience, and self-belief aboard our much-loved sail training vessel.
This ambitious expedition will retrace and expand upon some of Helen Mary R’s most iconic voyages, from her Cornish home port in Fowey, along the stunning French coast, through the Channel Islands, and all the way up the Thames into the heart of London. With stops in historic harbours, vibrant maritime cities, and a special return to her old base on the River Hamble, this voyage blends celebration with challenge, reflection with adventure.
Each leg is a chapter in Helen Mary R's story, and we’re inviting a new generation of young people to help write it!
Join Us on a Life-Changing Adventure
Whether you're completely new to sailing or already confident on the water, ASPIRE40 offers an extraordinary opportunity to take part in a major offshore expedition. You’ll be part of a tight-knit crew developing teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and self-confidence every mile of the way. From navigating the rugged coastline of Brittany to hoisting sails on the Solent, and exploring hidden harbours to racing in a Round the Island Sail Training Race, this is Sail Training at its best.
You’ll experience:
- Offshore sailing across the English Channel and up the Thames
- Visits to 13 ports in France, the Channel Islands & the UK
- An unforgettable arrival at St Katharine Dock beside Tower Bridge
- Take part in a Round the Island Race with other UK Sail Training vessels (TBC)
- A unique legacy voyage, marking 40 years of sailing
Who Can Take Part?
We welcome applications from people aged 14–18 who are ready for adventure and excited to be part of something historic. No previous sailing experience is needed — just a willingness to learn, contribute, and push your boundaries.
For four decades, Helen Mary R has been more than a boat — she’s been a floating classroom, a home, and a launchpad for young people. ASPIRE40 honours that legacy — and carries it forward.
Secure your place aboard and help us celebrate the past, empower the present, and shape the future of Sail Training.
