SYNOPSIS:
Directors Dora Choi and Haider Kikabhoy began this project as a conservation campaign to save the iconic State Theatre in Hong Kong. Along the way, their research into the legendary life of founder Harry Odell revealed an indomitable pioneer and a soul-searching journey of what defines Hong Kong.
This eye-opening documentary uncovers a forgotten chapter of modern Hong Kong history, tracing the life of a man whose impact on Hong Kong’s arts and culture scene is still felt today. Unfolding like a detective story in the film, Odell’s twist-filled life was so amazing that it could only be true.
Dora Choi & Haider Kikabhoy, Director
Dora, born in Hong Kong, is a documentary director with over a decade of experience in mainstream media, with a focus on politics and social issues. She co-founded cultural enterprise Walk in Hong Kong. A passionate traveler, Dora had extensive stays in India and Mexico but is increasingly drawn to hidden corners of her home city. She also finds inspiration in the worlds of anthropology and ukiyo-e. "To Be Continued" is her first documentary feature as co-director
Haider Kikabhoy, is a fourth-generation Hongkonger with family roots in Mumbai and Guangdong’s Kaiping. He co-founded the cultural enterprise Walk in Hong Kong. Growing up with the tales his mother told him about lost theatres in Yau Ma Tei, he nurtured a fascination with the forgotten stories of old Hong Kong. Formerly an academic researcher on Hong Kong’s architectural history, he hopes to rediscover the spirit of this land through the legend of Harry Odell. To Be Continued is his first attempt at documentary filmmaking.
