FRIGG

"Hot fiddles from cool Scandinavia"

"...this is the essence of what the Finnish fiddling fuss is about. The band flies, in a mix of traditional and their own tunes, all shapely, ingenious and delivered with acute mastery and massive swing and energy."

Frigg has been conquering the world with a fusion of western folk music styles leaning strongly towards Nordic folk music, for which the world music media has coined the term nordgrass, referring to the bluegrass influences of the group. The tight interplay offour violins, string instruments and contrabass, fine-tuned to perfection and spiced with sparkling, humorous live-energy has made an impact on listeners all over the world.

Frigg visits the WOMAD festival at the invitation of the BBC, visits the rainforests of Borneo at the Rainforest World Music Festival, tours Japan and Australia. Nordic folk revelry full of bluegrass influences sinks nicely in North America, and state after state gets to experience the effects of the Frigg avalanche. As a cherry on the cake, the band is invited to perform at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival among the world's champions of roots music. In addition to its own concerts, the ensemble carries out several spectacular projects together with symphony orchestras, choirs and wind ensembles. New music is released at a steady pace, with albums repeatedly appearing in lists and rave reviews of the best albums on fRoots, Songlines, Rhythms.au and numerous other world music portals.

Two decades, ten albums, about a thousand gigs in thirty countries and tens of thousands of kilometers later, that same passion is still smouldering. The hypnotic combination of the violin sound, which has already become a concept, and the irresistibly pushing rattle of stringed instruments and the beat of the double bass, continues to create channels like a slowly floating spring mountain stream, the origins of which are precisely known.
