About this Event
ASHRAE Hawai‘i Chapter and Hawai‘i Energy are thrilled to bring seasoned instructor and consultant David Wylie to Hawai‘i for a four-day series of FREE workshops on electrical, mechanical and energy topics. Please register quickly, in-person seats are very limited. Classes will be held at the Hawai‘i Energy Training Room (50 N. King St. Suite #500, Honolulu HI 96817). The training will be also offered remotely via Microsoft Teams. Coffee and lunch will be provided.
Adjustable Speed Drives
Adjustable speed drives (ASDs) are found in commercial, process, and industrial facilities. ASDs are used to modulate the speed of operations, which can save on energy costs.
This class will cover system fundamentals including load types, flow control for pumps and fans, and adjusting motor speed with ASDs. All techniques discussed will be practical and proven approaches. Will also cover selected new and emerging technologies.
Some energy efficiency strategies we will cover include air conditioning for commercial facilities and load control for process facilities. This class also will explore potential application problems such as power quality issues.
Get smart about using ASDs with intelligent control to apply savings strategies.
This class is intended for engineers, technicians, operators, and maintenance professionals.
Course Objectives:
After attending this class, participants should be able to:
• Define the types of adjustable speed loads
• List the types of adjustable speed drives including variable frequency drives (VFDs)
• Describe how ASDs function in typical facility systems
• Assess what type of control is best for different AFD applications
• Identify instances where ASDs can help save energy
• Compare the economic benefits and tradeoffs of using ASDs
• Explain how ASDs impact motors and systems
• List methods to overcome ASD power quality and motor insulation issues
We will send participants a map and instructions on how to get to the training room prior to the class. Registration will close when we reach room capacity. If you cannot attend after registering kindly email [email protected] and [email protected] so that we can offer the space to another person. Mahalo.
