Asher Gamedze je britský bubeník, skladatel a kapelník žijící v Kapském Městě. Jeho hudba je hlubokou fúzí různých hudebních tradic jižní Afriky, volné improvizace a jazzu. Gamedze je samouk a v průběhu let si získal uznání díky spolupráci s kapelami jako Angel Bat Dawid či Nduduzo Makhatini a jako studiový hráč pro mnoho dalších jihoafrických umělců. V roce 2020 vydal své debutové, kritikou oceňované album „Dialectic Soul“, které např. The New York Times označil za jedno z nejlepších jazzových alb roku. V roce 2022 následovalo vydání alba „Out Side Work“ a album „Turbulence and Pulse“ vydal v roce 2023 na labelu International Anthem. Jeho projekt Another Time Ensemble byl v roce 2024 zařazen do programu festivalu Le Guess Who? a v letošním roce je dokonce jedním z jeho kurátorů.V prosinci 2020 odcestoval Asher do egyptské Káhiry, kde sestavil kvintet z nejlepších zde žijících improvizátorů. Tento nový projekt s názvem Another Time Ensemble hraje ve složení: Maurice Louca na syntezátory (The Dwarfs of East Agouza (Rachot 2023), Elephantine, Northern Spy Recs), Adham Zidan na baskytaru (The Invisible Hands, Baskot Lel Baltageyya), Sam Shalabi na kytaru (The Dwarfs of East Agouza (Rachot 2023), Eskenderella, Dimension Machine) a Alan Bishop na altsaxofon (The Dwarfs of East Agouza (Rachot 2023), The Invisible Hands, Sun City Girls, Sublime Frequencies). Právě s touto sestavou, jejíž součástí jsou všichni členové kapely The Dwarfs of East Agouza, přijíždí Asher Gamedze vůbec poprvé do Prahy.

Asher Gamedze is a British drummer, composer and bandleader based in Cape Town. His music is a deep fusion of various South African musical traditions, free improvisation and jazz. Gamedze is self-taught and has gained recognition over the years through his work with bands such as Angel Bat Dawid and Nduduzo Makhatini, and as a studio player for many other South African artists. In 2020, he released his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Dialectic Soul’, which was named one of the best jazz albums of the year by The New York Times, for example. He followed that up in 2022 with the release of ‘Out Side Work’ and released ‘Turbulence and Pulse’ in 2023 on the International Anthem label. His project Another Time Ensemble was included in the program of Le Guess Who? 2024 festival and this year he is even one of its curators.
