About this Event
Presentation Description- This course addresses the importance of estate planning and legacy planning for engineers and their families. While engineers are highly trained in technical analysis and risk management, estate planning concepts are rarely covered in formal education and are often misunderstood or delayed. As a result, many professionals lack a clear plan for how legal, financial, and healthcare decisions will be handled in the event of incapacity or death. Engineers frequently face complex planning considerations due to higher income potential, retirement accounts, investment assets, business interests, and multi-generational family dynamics. This course introduces estate planning as a structured process that coordinates legal documents, financial strategies, beneficiary designations, and tax considerations to reduce uncertainty and avoid unnecessary costs for surviving family members. The presentation reviews the consequences of failing to plan, including probate delays, legal expenses, and loss of control over asset distribution. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of essential estate planning documents, planning for incapacity, strategies to reduce or avoid probate, and common special circumstances such as minor children, special?needs beneficiaries, and blended families. Basic tax considerations related to inherited retirement accounts and recent legislative changes are also introduced.
