About this Event

Want front-row insight into the rapidly changing world of journalism? Discover how the future of storytelling is unfolding right now.

Join us on Tuesday, March 24, at 6:30 p.m. at Sitar Arts Center for the next conversation in our 2026 Artists at Work Speakers Series. We’re taking an inside look at the ever-evolving landscape of radio, podcasting, and nonfiction storytelling.

Our guest is A.C. Valdez, an award-winning audio producer who has shaped some of the most influential podcasts and radio projects of the past decade for outlets such as Vox Media, The Atlantic, and NPR, including the Pulitzer-winning podcast, No Compromise.

In conversation with Sitar alum and actor Nyla Marie Mickel, A.C. will share insights on crafting powerful nonfiction audio and on building stories that resonate.

Whether you’re passionate about the arts, a media consumer, a creative professional, or simply curious about how stories shape our world, this conversation is for you.

This in-person event is free, but registration is required. Space is limited.

ABOUT

Sitar Arts Center engages DC youth, from early childhood to young adulthood, in building a creative community of learning and belonging that removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training.

Since 2024, the Artists at Work Speakers Series has provided audiences rare insider access to people who make it all happen behind the scenes – their stories, creative decisions, technical challenges, and career journeys of the diverse professionals who bring DC’s arts scene to life.

The series has features professionals from the Phillips Collection, The Washington Ballet, DC Jazz Festival, Shakespeare Theatre Company, White House Photo Office, the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, Arena Stage, and more.
