Bring a shirt, tote, or any fabric piece from home and explore color, pattern, and creative play. With gentle artistic guidance, you’ll transform a simple textile into something uniquely and beautifully yours.
More about Gioconda Padovan:
Gioconda Padovan is a Venezuelan-born graphic designer, ceramic artist, and art educator based in Maryland. Her creative practice spans drawing, ceramics, and textile art, blending hand-drawn imagery, expressive lines, and thoughtful phrases inspired by travel, nature, and everyday life. Through her work, she explores identity, memory, and the quiet transformation of familiar objects.
Alongside her studio practice, Gioconda teaches at VisArts in Rockville, MD, and leads independent art workshops for children and adults, creating welcoming, playful spaces where creativity, experimentation, and connection are encouraged.
All experience levels welcome! We will be using paint materials, so please dress accordingly.
Tips for workshop artists:
• Bring one garment or textile item to transform (shirt, blouse, jeans, denim jacket, canvas tote bag, etc.)
• Cotton or cotton-blend fabrics work best (100% cotton preferred)
• White, cream, or light-colored fabrics are ideal for vibrant results
• Avoid very stretchy or thin fabrics (spandex-heavy materials can be difficult to work with)
• Optional: Bring photocopies of any images or text you’d like to transfer onto your piece
• Consider thrifted or clearance items if you’d like to experiment more freely
Registration is required and space is limited. If registration is showing as closed, that means that all available spaces have been filled. Please check our calendar for future events. If you register to join the workshop and are not able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible.
