Printmaker Julie Lapping Rivera discusses “Look Again: Portraits of Daring Women”, her series of woodcut and collage portraits honoring overlooked women from history. Inspired by The New York Times “Overlooked” project, the work pairs each portrait with original bilingual poetry by diverse female poets, and brief biographies of each subject, celebrating creativity, resilience and inclusion across cultures and centuries.
Drawing on her extensive career as an educator and artist, Rivera will discuss how her practice responds to contemporary issues of discrimination while amplifying the inspiring legacies of remarkable women across centuries and cultures.
