About this Event
In this talk, California artist Marsha Balian will take us through her process and the stories behind Show, Don't Tell - her solo show at the Imperfecta gallery in which she explores the intersection between visual and written stories.
Balian's narrative work invites the viewer to conjure their own interpretations of what they see in a dynamic rather than a literal way. There are implicit narratives in the many layers of each complex piece that are intended to evoke memories or ignite the viewer's imagination. And the different, often disparate elements encourage repeated attention which can generate new stories and meaning for the viewer. The artwork in Show, Don't Tell is mixed media and includes decades worth of found materials and ephemera.
The talk will commence at 2pm.
Gallery Opening Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm – EXCEPT first Wednesdays (closed) and first Thursdays (open 5-8pm only). The gallery is located at 809 NW Flanders st, Portland OR.
