Join us on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM at the Metchosin Art Pod, located at 4495 Happy Valley Road, for an insightful artist talk featuring Daniel Laskarin, a distinguished artist and professor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Victoria. With a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA, Laskarin has a career that spans decades of exhibitions across Canada and internationally, bringing a profound and contemplative perspective to his work.Titled “From the Wreckage, Other Futures,” this talk promises to delve into themes of possibility and transformation emerging from conditions of collapse, decay, and ruin. Laskarin’s practice examines the intricate relationship between perception and consciousness as embodied experiences, creating works that evoke a sense of an unknown yet precarious otherness. His interdisciplinary approach weaves together elements of environment, materiality, and influence, resulting in dynamic objects and images that resonate with the complexities of the self.
Moderated by Diana Smith, the event will include an interview with Laskarin and conclude with an opportunity for audience questions, encouraging interaction and deeper engagement with the artist’s process and ideas.
This artist talk is presented in conjunction with “Fleeting: Exalting the Ephemeral,” the current exhibition at the Metchosin Art Pod, for which Laskarin serves as juror and guest artist. For more information about Daniel Laskarin’s artistic practice, please visit https://laskarin.ca.
