About this Event
With more than four decades devoted to figurative sculpture, Lassalle has earned
recognition as one of the UK’s most compelling sculptors of the human form.
Described by Benny Higgins, Chairman of the National Galleries of Scotland, as
“one of the best figurative sculptors in the UK” Lassalle fuses classical tradition
with contemporary subjects.
This talk takes place during her solo exhibition - Wings Horns and Humans. This latest
collection draws upon the archetypes of Greco-Roman and Abrahamic
myth, layering them with urban realities and modern cultural currents. From the
exalted flight of Icarus to the mischievous stance of Rambeaux, Wings, Horns and
Humans embodies a dialogue between the sacred and the feral, the timeless and
the contemporary.
“Integrating human, animal and spiritual energies, I aim to define and celebrate
the exuberant wildness and freedom that is inherent in our inner nature,”
says Lassalle.
Raised in an artistic Parisian family, Lassalle now lives and works in Bristol UK,
where the city’s street culture informs her contemporary interpretations of myth.
Her sculptures explore the human body as the threshold between spirit and matter,
emotion and intellect, vulnerability and strength.

The talk will include a live demonstration by Luicanne which will give some insight into the concepts underlying her work and the complex processes involved in the creation of a bronze sculpture. There will also be an opportunity to meet the artist.
