Member Exclusive EventSince 1986, artist Tyree Guyton has been transforming his Detroit neighborhood with the internationally celebrated Heidelberg Project, turning discarded objects into community, conversation, and art. His philosophy, what he calls Heidelbergology, looks at how both people and things can find new life when brought back into the communities they came from.
For the first time, some of the project’s monumental sculptures have been brought from Detroit to a gallery setting, alongside sketches, paintings, and other works from Guyton’s four decades of studio practice. Together, they ask the questions Where does art come from? Where do we go see it? Is it art now?
This members-only preview is your chance to hear directly from Guyton as he shares the stories behind the work and the ideas that continue to inspire this ever-changing project.
Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and champagne (or your beverage of choice) as you connect with the artist, curator Laura Bickford, and fellow members after the tour.
