Create surreal furniture, small paintings and peg doll people to inhabit an artists' dolls house
About this Event

During her artists residency Dr Jenna Fox will be creating a fantastical dolls house installation, and you are invuted to be part of the process.

"I am using the residency to create a fantastical dolls house. The wall paper will be handmade from my many patterns and the result will be a 'Playscape'. The workshop will be a time to go as wild as you dare and create surreal furniture, small paintings and make peg doll people to inhabit the dolls house. This is less about making and everything about letting your inner fun side out to play. Concepts and ideas are the focus as we have fun together making and shaping the dolls house."

Dr Jenna Fox is a British artist whose PhD research explores alter egos as a way to tap into alternative and sometimes conflicting creativity within her practice. Alter egos enable her to question identity and place. The inside, the outside, boundaries, viewpoints and the movement between the two. She employs playfulness and humour as a coping mechanism and a means of exploring complex, often troubling topics in an accessible manner through painting, sculpture, and installations."
She has exhibited extensively across the UK and was selected for Wells Contemporary 2022 for an installation of huge flowers. Her work is on show at Reading station with a mural 10m x 3.3m and at the Reading Festival site with a huge mural painted in June 2025. In May 2023 she held a solo show at Guildford Cathedral and the Sunbury Gallery. She has exhibited at The National Trust, for The RSPB, Earley Station, Trowbridge Town Hall, Cromwell Place Gallery and The Crypt Gallery London, and is on permanent display at South Western Rail, The Sculpture Park Farnham, The War Horse memorial at Royal Ascot, Frimley Park Hospital and West Swindon Parish Council. She has just completed a huge mural at Oxford Road, Reading for NWR in September 2025.

Frequently asked questions:

We are a small team working behind the scenes answering your questions. If you email us via eventbrite or via our website we will answer as soon as we can.

Where are you based?

Our studios are located within Broad St Mall. You can find us on the first floor. We are the last unit before the toilets and exit to the carpark. If you get lost please ask any Broad St Mall security guard and they will direct you.

Sometimes our workshops take place in the community. Be sure to check the address on your ticket. When we are out and about in Reading town centre in Forbury Gardens or at festivals we will not know our exact location within the festival site until the day.

If I cannot make my paid workshop, can I transfer my ticket to another event or get a refund?

We are able to offer a refund or transfer your ticket to a future event if you contact us a minimum of 7 days before the event starts. After this time we cannot offer any refunds or transfers. 48 hours before the event you can contact us to enquire about a waiting list and we will endeavour to transfer your ticket.

As a charity we rely on donations and ticket sales to pay our artists and models. We always keep ticket costs to a minimum and when possible offer a limited number of tickets as a ‘pay what you can’ and a donation option if you are able to pay more.

Our free community workshops and festival workshops are often made possible due to funding by the organisers. These workshops are popular and run at capacity. If you have selected a free ticket and are no longer able to attend please return your ticket so it is able to go to people on our waiting list. At busy times there may be a short wait at the workshop table and make sure you allow plenty of time to join us.
