In 2009, my world shifted in an instant when my twins, Graham and Reece, were born far too soon. I found myself thrust into the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)—a place defined by a paradox of clinical coldness and the most intense human emotions imaginable. It is a world where minutes feel like hours and a single breath is a monumental victory.
Being with It All is an immersive exploration of that liminal space.
As the founder of Graham’s Foundation, I have spent nearly two decades listening to thousands of families navigating the uncertainty of premature birth. While our foundation provides practical tools—care packages, mentors, and the MyPreemie app—this exhibit is designed to immerse you in an emotional landscape. It is an invitation to experience the sensory reality of a preemie parent.
The blue glow of phototherapy, the rhythmic trill of monitors, and the physical barriers between parent and child are more than medical details; they are the geometry of hope. This installation challenges you to move beyond passive observation. It is not about whether or not you like the art, but how each piece moves you and what remains with you after Being with It All.
This exhibit is a tribute to the resilience of NICU parents and a testament that, even in the most isolating experiences, no one should have to face this journey alone.
