CAN'T MAKE THE DATE? WATCH A REPLAY ANYTIME!
If you have an "artful eye", you can find hidden gems everywhere you go. In this one-session hour-long webinar, Artful Buzz introduces you to the world of Trader Joe’s, the marketplace with an unexpected, yet amazing treasure trove of art! It's the perfect combination of art meets food meets business!
Meet Julie Averbach, author of The Art of Trader Joe's, the first-ever art book appealing to both Trader Joe's fans and art-lovers. The book is based on her award-winning thesis while a student at Yale University, titled "Collecting Worlds: Trader Joe's as a Contemporary Cabinet of Curiosities.” The author describes her research process: “I became primed to see every Trader Joe’s store through an artistic lens. By featuring artwork across its products and stores, Trader Joe’s elevates the ordinary grocery store into a place of joy, wonder, and creativity.”
After visiting more than 150 Trader Joe’s stores nationwide, Averbach produced a must-read, beautifully designed book overflowing with fun facts and over 250 images. She has been featured in Artnet News, CNN, CNBC and the author and her book are becoming a viral sensation on social media.
In this Artful Buzz webinar, Debbie Wells and Julie Averbach present their virtual overview of the book plus original commentary from an art expert's perspective. Expect to see tons of images and enjoy lively conversation. Plus - it's an interactive experience. Audience participation through the chat feature is encouraged.
Uncover the surprising stories behind Trader Joe’s art that show you how to appreciate the grocery store as an art gallery! Be prepared to learn about all the customized artwork that animates everything from brown paper grocery bags to eye-catching product packaging, murals, handmade signs and their popular Fearless Flyer newsletter.
Many Trader Joe's images, from ancient Roman sculpture, 19th century cartoons to classic works of art, have roots in art history and other pop-culture references. Averbach explores how their art department transforms and parodies masterpieces by Michelangelo, Auguste Rodin, Georgia O'Keeffe, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol and more.
