Have you heard that Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy is currently on view at The Shed at Hudson Yards, NYC? What is Luna Luna? It’s an exciting exhibition of the world’s first art amusement park that has been lost since 1987. Originally created by artist Andre Heller in Hamburg, Germany, Luna Luna is comprised of rides, games and attractions by the iconic artists, including Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Salvador Dali, Sonia Delaunay, Kenny Scharf, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney and others.
Soon after, the amusement park was dismantled and stored away in shipping containers in Texas. When Drake, the popular rapper and art lover, heard this story, he decided to reassemble the artful fairground and let the public experience it once again. Thanks to rap music star Drake and other supporters, Luna Luna first became a popular attraction in Los Angeles. Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy and now traveled to NYC this winter. Visitors get to see a re-creation of the artfully inspired amusement park and can even walk into some of the pavilions. There is roving entertainment, music and motion throughout the exhibition. An elaborate time-line explains the Luna Luna story along with coordinated historical context of the times.
