Learn more about the artist featured in CMA’s exhibition Artemisia Gentileschi: Naples to Beirut. This conversation will bring together two leading experts on Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith W. Mann, senior curator of European art to 1800 at the Saint Louis Art Museum, and Christopher Marshall, Professor of Art History and Curatorship at the University of Melbourne and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities (FAHA).
Moderated by CMA curator Daniel Marcus, this conversation will explore Artemisia’s career in the city of Naples, focusing on two key paintings in the exhibition, Bathsheba and Hercules and Omphale (both 1635–37). Mann and Marshall will discuss the artist’s engagement with themes of gender and power in these works, while also addressing Artemisia’s network of artistic collaborators and competitors.
