Adult Art Workshop: Nature-Inspired Art – Paint Like the Group of Seven & Hokusai
Celebrate the Beauty and Power of Nature Through Painting
Join us at the Newmarket Public Library (Program Room, 2nd Floor) for an immersive, hands-on workshop inspired by two timeless art traditions: the bold, expressive landscapes of Canada’s Group of Seven, and the iconic movement and energy of Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
In this acrylic-on-canvas class, you’ll explore how different cultures and styles interpret the natural world—from the rugged forests and lakes of Northern Ontario to the dynamic waves of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.
What You’ll Learn and Do:
- Discover the rich history and style of the Group of Seven, known for their dramatic use of color, brushwork, and Canadian landscapes
- Explore the composition and symbolism of Hokusai’s The Great Wave, one of the most recognized and influential works in art history
- Step-by-step painting instruction using acrylic paints on canvas
- Blend bold color, texture, and movement to create your own nature-inspired masterpiece
- No prior painting experience needed—just bring your curiosity!
Guided by professional artist Kate Medvedok, this session is part of our "Paint Like Famous Artists" workshop series, created to make iconic styles accessible and enjoyable for artists of all levels.
