Adult Art Workshop: Explore Abstract Art
Discover the Bold, Expressive World of Abstract Art
Join us at the Newmarket Public Library for a creative, hands-on workshop inspired by two giants of abstract art: Piet Mondrian and Jackson Pollock. This engaging session invites you to step into the world of bold color, rhythm, and expressive freedom.
Piet Mondrian revolutionized modern art with his clean lines, geometric compositions, and primary colors—embracing balance, simplicity, and order.
Jackson Pollock, on the other hand, became famous for his energetic “drip painting” technique, using rhythm and movement to express emotion on canvas in a totally unstructured way.
In this step-by-step workshop, you’ll:
- Learn about the foundations and philosophies of abstract art
- Experiment with Mondrian’s geometric style and Pollock’s action painting
- Use acrylic paints on paper / canvas to create two mini abstract pieces
- Explore how color, shape, and movement can be used to express your mood or message—no realism required!
Led by professional artist Kate Medvedok, this session is part of our popular "Paint Like Famous Painters" series, where you explore iconic art styles in a relaxed, beginner-friendly setting.
