Photographer Amanda Stasny with Bumbling Bee Native Wildflowers
Amanda Stastny and her partner Daniel Riley own and operate Bumbling Bee Native Wildflowers from their home in Midtown Omaha. This venture arose when Amanda wanted to add more native plants to her own yard, but was on a limited budget due to a concussion. Taking photographs of native plants lead to the discovery of a world of tiny bees, most no larger than a grain of rice. These bees have a wealth of diversity, intricate patterns and colors, and are vital for our ecosystem and food production. Come learn a bit about the beauty and importance of our native bees!

Book: Do You See Me? I'm a Busy Bee

Did you know there are green and black bees?Or that all bees have five eyes?
My journey to writing this children’s book began in 2016, when I took a photograph of what I thought was a green fly resting on pretty purple flower in the Sandhills of Nebraska. To my surprise, it wasn’t a fly at all—it was a green bee.
That first photo led me to taking more pictures of flowers and the bees buzzing around them, busy collecting nectar and pollen. With each new picture, I discovered different varieties of bees. That led me to discovering fascinating, fun facts about bees. The more I learned, the more curious I became. All this led to my first children’s book, “Do You See Me? I’m a Busy Buzzy Bee!”
This book features two levels of reading. The main text, written for grades 1–3, appears across the top of most pages, making it perfect for young readers. The fun facts included in other text, engages readers of all ages.
“Do You See Me? I’m a Busy Buzzy Bee!” is my very first children’s book, and I’m excited to share that I’m currently working on my second bee book—all about Busy Buzzy Honey Bees.
