The artists discuss the inspiration and technique behind the exhibits of their work on view in the library's second-floor gallery spaces. Tour of artwork and reception to follow.
7ove Child, the artist also known as Marlon Davila, is a first generation Guatemalan born in Princeton. His work is influenced by nature, the bright vibrant colors of his Mayan ancestry, as well as the works of Frida Kahlo, Dali and Picasso. “Phases of the Heart,” his exhibition on display in Reading Room, is a heartfelt project that showcases the diverse emotions the human heart sometimes experiences over time. The collection is a testament to the artist’s commitment to telling their personal story through the medium of oil paint, brush and canvas.
Cheng-Fen (Stephanie) Johannemann, originally from Taiwan, is a resident of Burlington County. She is well versed in several artistic mediums including oil pastel, gauche, watercolor, pencils and mixed media. Her exhibit at the library focusses on Chinese brush painting and is an exploration of the state of mind. As she explains in her artist's statement, "when staring at the majestic cliffs in a painting, it feels like time has stopped for a moment, and the chaotic thoughts taking up space in your head fade away like clouds drifting off into the horizon. When everything begins to move again, flowing brushstrokes dance as if to a beautiful waltz or fluid Tai Chi movements. They are constantly changing, while, similarly, my gaze never breaks away from the interchange of light and shadow."
