About this Event
Art Socials are informal, sociable sessions for teachers and art educators of all kinds run by Leeds Art Gallery and Henry Moore Institute. They aim to provide a space for teachers and educators to be creative, collaborative and experimental, and gain inspiration to take back into their teaching setting.
Join us to explore artworks across both galleries using language and poetry, inspired by Beyond the Visual, Henry Moore Institute’s new multi-sensory exhibition of work by blind and partially sighted artists.
We’ll work collaboratively to describe artworks and developing our vocabulary, oracy and enquiry skills to articulate multi-sensory experiences. We’ll experiment with how a description of an artwork can become an artwork in itself.
Audio descriptions of artworks are a key accessibility tool for galleries and museums, allowing blind and partially sighted visitors to engage with artworks. This Art Social will build on our recent work with poets, artists and writers to create collaborative audio descriptions for our exhibitions and adapt these methods into creative approaches that can be used in the classroom.
