We’re excited to for Vol. 2 of Art Proxima — a new (FREE) monthly meetup series from ACI Foundation focused on the issues, opportunities, and ideas shaping our local arts community.
Join us for our second session on Tues, May 12th at The Hourglass, featuring Lisa Helps, current chair of the Fernwood Community and Arts Association (FCAA) and former mayor of the City of Victoria. Lisa will share insights from both sides of the table — from grassroots organizing to City Hall — and how advocacy can help move projects forward within municipal systems.
• We’ll kick things off at 6:00 PM with informal networking and Community Pulse — a chance for attendees to share a quick (60-second) intro, ask, or offer.
• At 6:45 PM, Lisa will share insights from her experience navigating municipal systems, highlighting how advocacy can shape policy, unlock opportunities, and move community-led projects forward — followed by a Q&A.
• From 8:00–9:00 PM, we’ll continue the conversation with more time to connect.
This session will be of particular interest to you if:
• Want to better understand how decisions get made at the municipal level
• Are interested in advocating for space, funding, or policy change
• Are working on — or exploring — projects that may require public support
• Are curious how grassroots efforts can connect to municipal processes
• Want to connect with others in the arts and culture community
Location & Accessibility:
The event will take place at the new VIVAS location, The Hourglass, located at 1101 Yates St., at the corner of Cook & Yates. The main entrance is on the main floor facing Cook street, across the parking lot. Accessible washrooms are available on the main floor.
