If you’ve never attended, the set up is simple: Bring yourself. Be yourself. Express yourself. Be considerate of others and responsible for your self in the space. ☺️
I play music in the background, and conversation flows as people work on their creative projects. We don’t paint the same thing. You don’t have to paint, you can bring a creative project you’re working on, or enjoy adult coloring books, collage materials, etc. that we have. Everyone follows their own process and expresses what they want. No experience or expertise are required: it is easier and more fun than it sometimes seems to those who have not painted before.
Materials we offer, free to use, are: sponges, brushes, acrylic paint, and canvas panels and stretched canvases, beads, poster board, sketching paper, watercolor paper, watercolor paints, pencils, gouache paint, colored pencils, crayons, markers, & oil and soft pastels; crochet, knitting, and cross stitch basics, ink-stamp making kit, air-dry clay, a large magazine collection, sketchbooks and adult coloring books as well.
This is free to attend: an actual space that costs nothing for people to be free and safe to create. The way a regular creative practice just spills over abundance in other areas of one’s life is amazing, but you’ve got to do it, to experience that. This lowers the barrier hopefully for others who do not have a space in which they can easily go to create, don’t have a lot of materials, or are too busy. I will accept monetary or art supply donations after a time if someone is regularly attending and wants to contribute so that I can keep this going. However, there is no expectation of you needing to give to attend. You also do not need to paint/create the entire time. You can start a painting without finishing, finish a painting, or finish several. There are no expectations of you or your work. Being around creatives as a creative is restorative. It also brings many opportunities to learn from others.
Space is limited to around 20 attendees. Art Night is weekly, which allows more people to attend, as the same people will not be able to come every week. This is an alcohol-free, 21+ experience.
Conversations should be approached with sincerity and respect; the goal is understanding, not always agreement. Please be polite to everyone, clean up after yourself, and enter into the space with good faith. Being authentic is key to making real connection and fostering a sense of open communication and community. That can be scary, but no one will push you; please do not push or prod at anyone else - no bullying. In brief, just be nice. Thank you for respecting the rules of the group to maintain that safe space for all.
