Art Medicine Residency is an immersive journey to develop the creative processes of the body in deep relationship with nature, recognising the forces of the essential elements of life. Through practices of the body, voice, and shamanic medicines — both in the studio and in nature — this experience culminates in a collective offering, a ritual performance created in nature and for nature.
Structure
The work unfolds over three days: two days in a studio, where body and ritualistic practices are explored and the third day culminates in a collective ritual performance-offering in the forest, guided by the poetics of elemental beings.
Through practices designed to vivify the body, using techniques from Butoh Ritual Dance, Shamanic Medicine, body painting, self-crafted organic costumes, Sacred Cacao, body sculpture, breathwork, bio-inspiration, sound healing, and guided meditation, participants are invited to immerse in themselves and nature. These tools open the body’s communication channels in profound ways, cultivating a new repertoire for developing a heightened state of presence with its internal elements — physical sensations, emotions, thoughts, imagination, and spiritual energy.
The proposal is to explore poetic creations of the body through devices that provoke the deconstruction of urban humanoid corporeality and to rescue a language of connection with the natural world and the imaginary beings of our collective unconscious that inhabit it.
A laboratory to rethink and offer strategies in the face of a dehumanized world shaped by the control of the system and its robots, which controls mass thought patterns, which domesticates and castrates bodies, which teaches violent communication and which has promoted social isolation through digital media. These bodies that distance themselves from nature bring about a disconnection with spontaneity and intelligence through instinct.
The performance offering is an act where each participant offers themselves in their maximum entirety to what is presented at the moment of the scene, the body sustains a state of expansion of personal energy and connection with the audience through improvisation.
The process consists of creating the script, preparing the body, preparing together the elemental costume and performing in nature. The performance is developed with the collective and respects the individualities of each participant, with the intention of generating connection, interaction with the elements and revealing states of presence.
The participant will develop
- Spatial awareness as a performer.
- Opening body channels of deep communication with the elements of nature
- Create an offering from the inspiration that comes from the outside and inside individual nature.
- Learning to transform what needs to be expressed into a ritualist act.
- Make a handcraft costume with elements from nature.
- The practice of being present for what the moment demands and not representing a character for the audience.
