About Raúl Orlando Edwards
Raúl’s impact on Houston’s arts and cultural scene is unparalleled. Recognized by four consecutive City of Houston Mayors, his artistic vision spans across performing arts, education, cuisine, and social advocacy. Since arriving in Houston in 1995, Raúl has:
- Founded Houston’s first official salsa studio in 1998.
- Led over 100 arts and community initiatives promoting diversity, inclusion, and social change.
- Received the prestigious Jefferson Award for outstanding community service.
- Expanded arts audiences from 600 to over 7,500 annually as leader of FLAMART & Foundation for Modern Music.
- Launched Arts of Tolerance at Rice University, reaching 17,000+ people through arts-driven advocacy.
His extraordinary career has been featured over 75 times in media, including NBC Nightly News, and his work continues to inspire artists, activists, and cultural leaders nationwide.
