About this Event
Join us for Recursive, an immersive evening that bridges the natural and digital worlds through contemporary art inspired by the San Antonio River. Digital media artist Diego Chavez explores the dialogue between nature and technology, amplifying the river's voice through algorithmic audio composition and real-time visualization.
The program unfolds in two acts:
Act I: The Hidden Sounds of the River
6:30–8:00 PM | Estela Avery Education Center
Experience the river's subtle soundscape brought to life through sensitive stereo field-recording microphones and a four-speaker omni-sound system. Generative visuals respond in real-time to the river's natural rhythms, creating a multi-sensory exploration of the watershed.
Act II: Live Coding and Architectural Transformations
8:15–9:30 PM | BHP Pavilion
As twilight falls, the experience transitions to the BHP Pavilion. Here, the performance combines field recordings and ambient compositions, crafted live through coding. High-powered projectors transform the pavilion's architecture with stunning visuals, while a third projection reveals the live coding interface, offering insight into the creative process. Witness how programming shapes both sound and visuals in real-time, culminating in an unforgettable journey through the rhythms of nature.
This performance invites you to engage with the beauty of the San Antonio River through an innovative blend of art, technology, and education. Don't miss this evening of discovery and inspiration.
is a San Antonio River Foundation initiative and program to support artists and engage the San Antonio River community and our visitors with contemporary art experiences.
Artists are invited to present projects at Confluence Park that align with San Antonio River Foundation’s mission to enhance the river as a vibrant cultural experience and promote and encourage the conservation, stewardship, and enjoyment of the San Antonio River Basin.
Free and open to the pubic. Registration is not required, but encouraged.
About Diego Chavez
Diego Chavez is a digital media artist and technologist exploring the resonance between natural phenomena and computational systems. His work weaves together ambient soundscapes and generative visuals, creating immersive experiences that bridge organic and digital realms. Through live coding performances and AI-assisted art, he transforms environmental patterns into flowing digital landscapes, inviting audiences to explore the delicate interplay between nature, technology, and human experience.
