Art In the Open: Diego Chavez, Flow State Immersive Workshop & Showcase

Explore the intersection of art, technology, and nature in this FREE immersive workshop series and sunset showcase, designed and led by artist Diego Chavez for Art In the Open at Confluence Park. Workshop 1: Flow & Forces (November 4, 6-8pm)

Discover the basics of live coding and video synthesis through the lens of natural phenomena:

• Introduction to Hydra for live-coded visuals.

• Create wave-like patterns simulating water and sound oscillations.

• Develop flocking behaviors inspired by birds and fish.

Workshop 2: Growth & Patterns (November 11, 6-8pm)

Dive into nature’s fractal beauty and dynamic systems:

• Explore plant-inspired algorithms using L-systems.

• Learn to build particle systems that mimic organic growth.

• Combine techniques to craft living, breathing digital art.

Workshop 3: Digital Ecology (November 18, 6-8pm)

Fuse visuals with sound to create immersive environments:

• Design audio-reactive visuals synced with natural rhythms.

• Incorporate real-time video inputs for dynamic compositions.

• Integrate all techniques in preparation for the showcase.

As the sun sets, the pavilion becomes a vibrant canvas celebrating the convergence of nature, technology, and community:

• Participant Creations: Each participant presents a unique visual projection responding to ambient soundscapes by Jevonchi, featuring environmental recordings and atmospheric beats.

• Projection Mapping: Live projection transforms the pavilion’s architecture into a dynamic art piece, complemented by interactive satellite zones inviting audience participation.

• Immersive Soundscapes: Blended natural and digital sounds create a captivating audio environment.

• Equipment: Projectors, sound systems, and laptops are provided (reservations required for laptops). Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops.

• Capacity: Workshop series is limited to 15 participants, fostering an intimate learning environment.

• Accessibility: Each workshop is designed to be accessible to beginners, though attending all three is recommended for the full experience.

His work weaves together ambient soundscapes and generative visuals, creating immersive experiences that bridge organic and digital realms. Through live coding performances and AI-assisted art, he transforms environmental patterns into flowing digital landscapes, inviting audiences to explore the delicate interplay between nature, technology, and human experience.
