06/02/26 - 04/04/26
Preview: Friday 6th February 7pm
Karen Hopkins is a physical and intuitive painter, creating dynamic textured and abstract landscapes. Although born and based in Wales, her extensive travels and living in South America, inform her process and fascination of organic patterns in our natural world.
'After being brought up in a post-industrial landscape, I travelled extensively before returning home.
I take daily long dog walks through nature and the coastline. I am fascinated by surface patterns and the debris of past industry, which litters the beach and how it has merged over time with nature. I am alert to the unique jewel like sculptures, produced by such a fusion.
I experiment with domestic and natural materials and fascinated by the reaction where the toxic and natural collide. I paint intuitively and physically, by pouring, scraping and gouging at canvases, revealing past marks that inform my multi-layered journey'.
Karen‘s untitled ambiguous work is characterised by her physical application and the reaction of unusual substances that aim to capture the essence of a place, the viewer once visited.
Karen Hopkins graduated from Carmarthen School of Arts and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Solo exhibitions include:
‘Snapshots’ Mojitonet Taganga, Colombia 2009
‘Lockdown Landscapes’ Caffi Lolfa June 2022,
