About this Event
Join us for this hands-on ink workshop which introduces participants to the foundations of Chinese brush practice through movement, rhythm, and mark-making.
Without focusing on copying calligraphy, the session lead by artist, Bryan Mew, emphasises how ancient pictograms emerged from observation, gesture, and embodied motion.
Participants will work with both large and small brushes, learning how scale changes the way the body moves and how ink behaves on paper. After guided exercises exploring lines, waves, and wet/dry techniques, participants will spend an extended period developing an artwork based on a selection of ancient Chinese characters.
To complete the experience, each participant will stamp their work with a traditional Chinese zodiac seal provided by the artist, creating a personal and meaningful piece to take home.
Whether you’re new to ink or refining your skills, this workshop offers a creative and reflective experience connecting history, gesture, and imagination.
