About this Event
Art in Bloom is a new project at the Botanic Garden, inviting people of all ages to connect creatively with nature. Beginners and children age 10+ are very welcome.
Our first in the series is Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement.
Ikebana is much more than simply placing flowers in a vase. It’s a profound cultural practice that harmonizes nature, humanity, and space. With roots dating back to the 7th century, Ikebana has evolved into a disciplined art form, emphasizing minimalism, asymmetry, and the appreciation of natural beauty.
Practising ikebana is a contemplative journey, inviting individuals to connect with the essence of each plant and the environment around them. Practitioners, known as ikebanists, meticulously arrange flowers, branches, and leaves to create compositions that reflect the seasons, emotions, and aesthetic principles.
Our facilitator is the lovely Shan Sun of . Shan is a certified Grade 4 teacher through the Sogetsu school of ikebana.
