Artist Statement
As a flower artist who is inspired by what is growing seasonally along the shores of the Missouri River in Omaha, Nebraska, I’ve appreciated deepening a connection with the natural shifts of time in nature by tuning into what is blooming locally. Pressing flowers has become a deeply intentional practice into noticing these gifts around us.
This series of pressed and framed flora pieces find stems, leaves, blooms, petals and pods puzzle pieced together, swirling and moving with one another.
You may notice words and recognizable shapes, like hearts or the word “LOVE” created by the form and shape each plant element offers. The flora represented comes from as close as our personal garden, native prairie plants and local flower farms, and as distant as commercial flower farms in South America.
Each is precious — I’ve grown to see each one as a poem of gratitude to our natural world. I hope you do too.
