More Details about the Exhibition.
It will be showcasing traditional Makonde Sculptures - chameleon entwined shetanis of Hossein Anangangola, grotesque wide mouth opened human creatures of Tanzanian Bernhard Pius and Mathias Nampoka, the contemporary Giacometti like elongated and fragile female bodies of the late Makonde sculptor Simun Nyedi Dastan: the breast, the jar-head, the neck becoming a snake, the arm pulled to the extreme, the long and frail legs, the clinching child - stylized elements as old and contemporary as ever.
First generation Shona Stones of Bernhard Matemera, Henry Munyarazi and Amali Maroba of Zimbabwe, and a contemporary abstract stone sculpture of Zambian Tom Phiri will also be showcase.
Kenyan master in wood sculptures Morris Foit and contemporary Kenyan sculptor Denis Muraguri pieces will also be at show.
Finally, a three dimensional presentation enriched by the archaic colour pencil paper drawings of Kivuthi Mbuno, his bizarre, hauntingly grotesque and almost surrealistic interpretation of nature, man and animal will be showcase.
