ABOUT THE MISSION
Mitochondrial diseases are caused by faulty genes that change mitochondria, the powerhouses in our bodies. About 1 in 5000 people has mitochondrial disease. Any organ in the body can be affected, often resulting in severe consequences and early death.
POLG mitochondrial diseases devastate the livers and brains of infants, children and young adults. They experience rapid and severe liver failure and uncontrollable seizures. There is currently no treatment.
The Noah Jordan Foundation takes on this challenge by funding vital research in POLG mitochondrial diseases to find a cure. This is all in memory of Noah Kenneth Ray Jordan, a sweet boy who was healthy and happy until he suddenly passed away due to acute liver failure, at just 9 months old.
We are Braydon White and Jane Zhuk, a pair of friends and dance partners based in Newcastle. To support the charity's goal of funding a PhD project researching liver failure in POLG disease, we will climb the two tallest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis) and England (Scaffel Pike) in one day. This will involve approximately 11 hours of hiking and over 6 hours of driving. In addition, we will be donating all of the proceeds from this event towards the cause.
