About this Event
Join us for art + architecture: Sfumato, and Terraces!
This event will explore the interplay between art and architecture, focusing on the experimental concept of Sfumato ( pairing craft cocktails with botanical fragrances) and the modern design of the new residential development, Terraces - itself a bold compliment to the historic Woodbridge neighborhood. Come and immerse yourself in the beauty of natural and designed elements coming together, creating delight, the sense of discovery, and the reminiscence of emotions. Meet the man behind the concept of Sfumato, and author of the book, Cocktail Theory, Dr. Kevin Peterson.
Location: 1636 Merrick St - The staged model of The Terraces at Woodbridge
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the harmony between the senses, and our experience of art and architecture firsthand. See you there!
Dr. Kevin Peterson wants to delight your senses. While perfume, candles, cocktails, and spirits may seem like independent pursuits, they all rely heavily on your sense of smell. And understanding the nitty gritty details of how our noses work can unlock new experiences in both scent and flavor. This talk will be a brief overview of how Kevin's background in physics and engineering started him in the automotive industry, but lead to him leaving his job to open a niche perfumery and cocktail bar. Scented cocktails will be provided.
Dr. Kevin Peterson's working life began in kitchens, ranging from fast food to fancy French. Eventually taking a more academic route, he received a BA in physics and Ph. D. in mechanical engineering, taking a combustion research job at General Motors and moving to Detroit in the early 2010's. After a stint in corporate research, he left to co-found Sfumato and Castalia, a perfumery and cocktail bar located in Detroit's Midtown neighborhood, where he is the Nose and resident Cocktail Scientist.
